Maui
The Valley Isle Maui is known for its white sand beaches, crystal waters and relaxed life-style. History is alive on Maui. Lahaina, the whaling village, is always filled with excitement. The giant humpback whales winter in the waters off Maui, and when the whales frolic, all of Maui stops to watch. Other entertainment is seemingly endless. Visit Hana and the Seven Sacred Pools, climb Haleakala Crater, or snorkel at Black Rock in Kaanapali. It's worth the climb to visit Olowalu, which is the only place in the chain where you can see four other Hawaiian islands at once. "The Valley Isle" was Mark Twain's favorite. Farmers here produce world-famous sugar and pineapple. 10,000 foot Haleakala is the largest dormant volcano crater in the world, and Puu Kukui mountain is one of the rainiest spots on earth. Be careful or you'll be hooked. As the natives say, "Maui no
ka oi" - Maui is the best! Top photo courtesy: HVCB / Ron Dahlquist
